Question by roseprincessrabia: I'm literally addicted to reading, any advice? I've had a wild few years, filled with moving houses 5 times, deaths, and illness, and school, and through it all i've always used reading to cope. I used to think that reading was this perfectly healthy hobby i had. It's literally the first thing i do when i get up, and the last thing i do before i go to sleep. And i know this is going to sound ridiculous, but i was reading though the symptoms of "addiction" and I have ALL of them. I consistently use reading as an escape, and It's impossible to go more than a couple of hours without picking up a book. It doesn't matter whether it's fiction or non fiction (thought it's usually fiction) it has to be read from cover to cover. If i'm stressed of depressed, i immediately throw myself into a book . . .but than I look up a few hours later to realize that i've just wasted another day away when i had other important things to get done. It's gotten to the point where i have all these homework assignments (i'm in my first year of college) and I don't even start on them until 1am in the morning, b'c I couldn't tear myself away. My passion for reading is affecting my negatively every where. I've tried to hold off reading until the evenings, but than as soon as i start reading in the evening I look up at the clock and its 1am in the morning again. I don't have discipline in this area, at all. and when i do make myself stop reading, i get extremely depressed. I know a big thing with addiction is trading one negative addiction for a positive one. What positive addictions can i trade my reading for? Best answer:
